Why are US-produced vehicles making up more than half of global oil consumption?

More than half the world’s oil is consumed by the US, with India and Russia among the largest exporters.

The US has already announced plans to phase out all gasoline-powered vehicles by 2025, while India and Mexico are pushing ahead with plans to cut back on petrol-powered cars.
