The band’s new record, Fuel , was released yesterday and comes as the band is gearing up for the new year and as the release of the band’s next album, Metallica: In the Beginning was announced last week.
The album is a blend of heavy metal, hard rock, and pop influences, with many of the songs taking cues from the bands music videos.
The band have also been collaborating with former Blink-182 member Tom DeLonge on the new song “The Wrecking Ball.”
In an interview with MTV, guitarist Lars Ulrich said he wanted the album to have more of a “soulful” feel, but that the band has never really explored that.
“We always had the idea of making a record that we could do that we never tried to do before,” Ulrich told MTV.
“And so we thought, well, maybe we should try and do something like that now.
And that’s why we decided to try and create a record like that.
We really thought that that was going to be a really interesting thing to do.”
Metallica will play two shows on the road this year, beginning January 12th at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Tickets are available now at the O’hare Metrodome box office, or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
Metallica : In the Beginnings is out January 8, 2018.
